I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and looking into a cheaper repair and buying the right screwdriver to see the inside for myself. I need to get a second opinion or at least see the inside myself before I believe what he said. The Genius said that I have the current model (isn't there a newer, 2014 model?) so I should get the repair instead of buying a new one. I decided to keep the MBA and think about it. The Genius didn't understand why I thought he was making no sense. How is my computer suddenly worth $2000? Because a new monitor setup is at least $600 according to his estimates, keyboard, and so on. I told him that makes no sense.Ī brand new MBA is $949 on Amazon so why not just buy a new one if you're telling me that a logic board and a hard drive or whatever cost $900. Then he said that it's $755 to repair it and that's a good deal because the logic board and another part (I forget which one) add up to $900 together, just those two parts. I've never spilled anything but I just listened to him rather than argue.

He took it to the back room to open it up.Īfter 20 minutes, he comes back and said it "might" be due to water damage because he saw green mold on the inside. I got excited and he said he "pressed something." But he still couldn't power it on. I took it to the Genius Bar today and within a minute, the Genius got the power cord to green light. I have the same problem with my Macbook Air 2013 model. If you are having issues with your 2013 MBA (or any other mac), of course come and see us, but please don't expect us to replace the logic board just because you have read this post. It is just completely random as far as we are concerned. On the very few we have done that for, there are no patterns that are obvious to us. The last time I got that notice was about 2 months ago. I have seen probably a good 60+ 2013 MBAs come into my store and our internal system has only told us to replace the logic board out of nowhere on about 2-3 of those macs. The OP is right in that Apple replaced his logic board for free, without him having experienced an issue on his air, but this is a very rare circumstance. The replacement of MBA logic boards is not officially on that list, so please don't expect Apple to replace the logic board because of this post. I feel I need to hijack this thread just a little to set the right expectations here.Īll official Apple repair programs can be found on This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc.
